Zak Crawley joined the ranks of English openers to record a pair of ducks in an Ashes Test, following another dismissal to pacer Mitchell Starc during the first Ashes Test at Perth’s Optus Stadium on Saturday. Tasked with providing England a strong start to extend their 40-run lead, Crawley fell to Starc in the first over, thanks to an excellent one-handed catch from the veteran Aussie left-armer. In the first innings, he had edged the delivery to Usman Khawaja at slips.
Crawley now joins Trevor Bailey (Melbourne in 1959), Dennis Amiss (Adelaide in 1975), and Michael Atherton (Melbourne in 1998) as the fourth English opener to register a pair of ducks in an Ashes Test.
