WASHINGTON STATE – U.S. District Judge Mary Dimke has dismissed a federal lawsuit filed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation against a Washington state gun regulation.
The lawsuit challenged the constitutionality of Washington State's Senate Bill 50-78 , also known as the "Firearm Industry Responsibility and Gun Violence Victims' Access to Justice Act."
Governor Jay Inslee signed the bill into law in April 2023. It holds firearm manufacturers and sellers liable if they fail to establish and carry out reasonable control in the making, sale, distribution and marketing of guns.
Failure to comply with the law would be considered a violation of the state's Consumer Protection Act and public nuisance law.
