A popular breakfast food has been recalled across one part of the UK, with customers advised to avoid it due to the risk of potential Listeria contamination. The Food Standards Agency has told anyone with a 180g Nutrilean Chocolate Brownie Overnight Oats pot with a use-by date of November 25 to not eat the food.
The alert was triggered after the discovery that the oats may contain Listeria monocytogenes. These harmful bacteria can lead to some nasty illnesses. If you eat Listeria-infected food, early symptoms can resemble the flu, with people suffering high temperatures, muscle aches, chills, nausea and diarrhoea. More vulnerable people are also at a higher risk of contracting a worse infection; people over 65, pregnant women and young children should all take care to avoid the oats.
