The Kitchener-based medtech firm FluidAI wants to raise more than US$18 million to fund its expansion into the American market, says Amr Abdelgawad, the chief operating officer and co-founder.
The company recently obtained approval from the Food and Drug Administration in Washington for its hardware device called Origin , which monitors the pH levels and conductivity of abdominal fluids following colorectal surgery, bariatric surgery and operations on benign and malignant diseases of the liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile duct.
The planned expansion into the big American market comes more than 11 years after the medtech startup was founded by three students — two from the University of Waterloo and one from Toronto Metropolitan University.
