How could it happen that teenagers with loaded guns attacked a jewelry store in Cambridge?
It’s been a terrible week for violent crime in Waterloo Region, with shots fired between cars in the intersection of Bridgeport Road and Weber Street in Waterloo, and a group of armed teenagers who stormed into a jewelry store at the Cambridge Centre earlier this week.
The teens smashed the display cases with pickaxes to grab the jewelry. Thanks to vigilant security staff at the mall, police got there in time to arrest them.
A 22-year-old, a 19-year-old, a 17-year-old, and two 15-year-olds were held for a bail hearing on charges of robbery with a firearm. Two loaded pistols were seized by police.
The assailants were from Toronto, not here. But their crimes are very much our problem.
