CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Thanksgiving is a time for family, tradition, and of course—food! But if you’d like to keep your holiday plate a little lighter this year, I have a few simple swaps that can help. Small changes make a big difference. Please don’t go crazy or you’ll be left with strange dishes that your guests may not be into.

Instead of loading mashed potatoes with butter and cream, try mixing in plain Greek yogurt—it adds creaminess and protein with less fat. I set this out next to the potatoes, and guests can try a dollop if they’d like.

For green bean casserole, consider roasted green beans with toasted almonds for the same crunch without the heavy sauce. I also love to do roasted carrots. Simple, super healthy, and a great addition to your plate!
