Seven teenagers — including a girl of just 13 — have been shot after violence broke out during a Christmas tree lighting event in Chicago. ‌

The mayhem unfolded on Friday night in the city’s Loop district, just hours after the official Christmas lights switch-on in nearby Millennium Park, reports the Mirror. ‌

Police say the teens, aged between 13 and 17, were gunned down around 9.50pm near State and Randolph streets. ‌

Alderman Brian Hopkins said as many as 300 youths stormed the free event, with “multiple police officers” attacked using mace and stun guns. At least one officer was taken to hospital.

Posting on X, he wrote: “300 juveniles rioting in the Loop now… at least 5 victims shot, one critical. Multiple police officers attacked and injured.” ‌
