Seven teenagers, including a child as young as thirteen, have been shot following a riot at a Christmas tree lighting event in the US .

The chaos unfolded last night in Chicago's Loop, just hours after city's official Christmas light ceremony in nearby Millennium Park. The teenagers, all aged between 13 and 17, were shot at around 9:50pm, near the intersection of State and Randolph streets, the Chicago Police Department said. Alderman Hopkins, who represents the district of second ward, told how "multiple police officers" were also attacked and injured with mace and stun guns, with at least one hospitalised.
