In a landmark reform, the government on Friday, November 21, announced the implementation of the four Labour Codes, effectively replacing 29 existing labour laws with a modern, consolidated framework.
Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed that the codes have been notified and “are now the law of the land,” with enforcement beginning immediately.
The four codes, the Code on Wages (2019), Industrial Relations Code (2020), Code on Social Security (2020) and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code (2020), aim to simplify regulations, strengthen worker welfare and align India’s labour ecosystem with contemporary global standards.
