BARNUM TOWNSHIP, Minn. — After retiring early due to a service-related disability, Jenny Sandstrom had to find a new career that she was as passionate about as she was about the military and law enforcement. Having been fascinated by the well-trained dogs she worked alongside while deployed in Saudi Arabia, she decided to dedicate her career to training and rehoming rescue dogs.
In 2016, she opened Liberty K9 Rescue Ranch, which trains stray and surrendered dogs to maximize the chances of a dog finding a long-term home. In the years since, Sandstrom realized she cannot fill this niche alone.
To equip more people with skills to train rescue dogs, Sandstrom is partnering with the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College to create the Liberty K9 Academy for Professional Dog Trainers.
