This Thanksgiving, many of us are grateful for the most personal of blessings — our health, our families and whatever measure of security we still have in a year filled with uncertainty. But gratitude this year must stretch further. We are also thankful that Americans across the country are still willing to stand up for the survival of our democracy.
In communities large and small, citizens are helping those in need, supporting neighbors and showing the quiet acts of sharing and courage that hold a nation together. Democracy is not only defended in elections or courts but in everyday conversations, acts of decency and the willingness to speak out when something is wrong.
