On Day 2 of Aaj Tak Sahitya 2025, two prominent historians, Dr Vikram Sampath and Hindol Sengupta, called for a fundamental shift in how Indian history is written and understood.
In the session titled, 'Bharateeyata Ke Nayak-Khalnayak', they argued that the country’s historical narrative continues to be shaped largely by colonial frameworks that overlook India’s intellectual achievements, cultural continuity and civilisational depth.
Dr Sampath, historian and author of Tipu Sultan: The Saga of Mysore’s Interregnum , noted that historians still struggle to rebuild the past from fragments of sources that survived destruction over centuries.
