Residents of British Columbia's South Coast should prepare for significant rainfall this weekend. Up to 70 millimeters of rain is expected in the northern parts of Metro Vancouver, while Vancouver Island could see as much as 100 millimeters.

Rainfall warnings are currently in effect for several areas, including West Vancouver, North Vancouver, the Tri-Cities, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, and Howe Sound. This warning also extends to the Sea to Sky Highway, which runs from Squamish to Whistler. Additionally, Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a warning for West Vancouver Island, north of Tofino, where rainfall amounts could reach between 80 and 100 millimeters.

In northern Metro Vancouver, residents can anticipate 50 to 70 millimeters of rain beginning Saturday and continuing into Sunday. The weather agency indicates that light rain or drizzle will intensify to heavy rain later on Saturday, tapering off early Sunday morning as the weather system moves through the region.

The warning highlights that water may pool on roads and in low-lying areas, potentially leading to hazardous driving conditions. Visibility may also be significantly reduced at times. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel, especially in mountainous areas where weather conditions can change rapidly.

As the weekend approaches, residents are encouraged to stay informed about the weather and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this heavy rainfall event.
