BATTLE CREEK -- The Fowler volleyball team claimed its first state championship, and in the process kept Mendon from winning its first state title since 2019, when the Eagles beat the Hornets 30-28, 25-19, 25-22 on Saturday at Kellogg Arena.
After 17 seasons coaching volleyball, Fowler coach Patty Feldpausch came away with her state title.
It’s the first state title for the Eagles program, who made it to the state final in 2017 before falling in three sets to Plymouth Christian.
“I was in fourth grade, and I came to the game and I watched, not really knowing for sure what was going on,” Fowler senior middle Josie Simon said. “But I knew that I wanted to be there someday because I knew it was awesome, and I knew the atmosphere was great.”
