An Aurora man is dead after he was shot Nov. 21 by a Beresford Police Department officer, according to the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office.
The incident marks the seventh shooting involving an officer in South Dakota this year and is currently being investigated by the Department of Criminal Investigations.
A press release from the AG’s office states Christopher John Pearson, 36, was shot during a traffic stop.
The officer stopped a Ford Explorer at 8:48 p.m. in the parking lot of the Truck Towne Travel Plaza on Highway 46, the release states.
Pearson, the driver of the Ford, was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy is planned. The officer was not injured.
