Union members prepared the Christmas tree for the annual Light Up Downtown event, scheduled for Dec. 3.
The approximately 25-foot tree was donated by a longtime Canton resident.
CANTON − It's officially Christmastime in Canton.
Volunteers from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 540 covered the downtown Christmas tree in Central Plaza with thousands of lights the morning of Nov. 22.
For union members, lighting up the tree is one way to give back to the community.
"We're electricians. It makes sense for us to help power up downtown," said Eric Hann, business manager for the union.
Volunteers strung strands of lights from atop two bucket trucks and hung hundreds of ornaments.
Mayor William V. Sherer II will officially light the tree during the annual Light Up Do
