Travellers are bracing for disruption over the festive period as rail workers have declared a series of strikes throughout December. The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union announced on Friday (November 21) that its CrossCountry members will stage walkouts over pay and staffing disputes on several Saturdays next month.
The union has stated that this action follows a proposal by the rail company which was described as "worse than what was already on the table". CrossCountry , based in Birmingham, serves more than 100 stations across the UK, connecting seven of Britain's 10 largest cities, including Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield, with over 42 million passengers every weekda
