The Tennessee Department of Agriculture is monitoring the confirmed exposure of Equine Herpesvirus Type 1 (EHV-1) after a few equine events in Texas and Oklahoma.

No cases associated with this outbreak have been identified in Tennessee, but the department is recommending all Tennessee horses who attended the event quarantine at home.

Owners should monitor any potentially exposed horses for 21 days and be alert for neurologic signs and temperature spikes of 101.5 and above.

Should the symptoms arise, work with a private veterinarian for care and contact the State's Veterinarian's office at 615-837-5120.
