LEOMINSTER — The stage was set at Doyle Field. The MIAA Division I state title game was determined, as No. 4 Natick and No. 6 Franklin were competing for all the marbles on a grey and rainy Saturday morning.
As the rain fell, the Redhawks dominated possession in the first half, putting three goals into the Franklin net en route to a 4-2 victory in the state final.
With just over four minutes left in the first half, Natick captain Abby McCauley scored her second of the afternoon.
Standing near the 20-yard line, McCauley received the ball from co-captain Nicole Proia, pulled back and launched it into the bottom right corner of the net to give the Redhawks a 3-1 lead.
The seniors first goal opened the scoring for the morning. Three minutes into play and already Natick was up 1-0. McCauley
