ATLANTA — Georgia Rep. Buddy Carter sent a letter to the leaders of the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement asking officials to "protect citizens against record levels" of undocumented immigrants and to "confront safety concerns" in Atlanta.

The letter, addressed to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons, suggests the need for enhanced ICE presence in Atlanta.

He quoted numbers regarding "rising levels" of undocumented immigrants from an Oct. 2025 report released by the Migration Policy Institute . The report includes estimated growth numbers from 2019 to 2023 regarding undocumented immigrants in states around the U.S.
