A Maryland man who slashed and strangled his ex-girlfriend during a violent domestic dispute is facing prison time, authorities announced.
Annapolis resident Timothy Lee Styles, 57, was found guilty by a jury of multiple counts of assault in connection with an attack that left his former girlfriend hospitalized, according to the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors said that in April, officers from the Annapolis Police Department were called to a home on Bates Street, where there was a reported domestic-related incident.
At trial, Styles' ex testified, saying that Styles cut her neck and arm with a knife before strangling her. She had to be taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center for treatment of her injuries, officials said.
Styles was convicted of:
- First-degree assault;
- Second-degree assault;
- Reckless endangerment;
- False imprisonment.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
State's Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said that "this was a verbal argument that turned increasingly violent against the victim as she attempted to flee to safety."
"(Styles) threatened to kill the victim, held a knife to her neck, and strangled her to the point that she could not breathe. I am grateful to the jury, who heard the facts and agreed to the seriousness of this domestic attack.”
