SOUTH BEND – With 7:08 left in the first quarter Saturday, Notre Dame's offense took the field for the first time against Syracuse.
The Irish led by 21 at that point.
The situation only deteriorated from there for the visiting Orange, who were helpless to stop the ninth-ranked Irish pile up style points in a 70-7 victory on Senior Day at Notre Dame Stadium.
Irish running back Jeremiyah Love shored up his Heisman Trophy case with a memorable performance in what could be his last game in South Bend, running eight times for 171 yards and three touchdowns, including scoring runs of 45 and 68 yards.
Love's three touchdowns give him 20 for the season (17 rushing and three receiving), tying Jerome Bettis' Notre Dame record set in 1991. His total also leads the nation as his three scores again
