Northeastern freshman Xavier Abreu scored 32 points off the bench and Duquesne allowed 52 points in the second half en route to a 93-86 loss to the Huskies on Saturday at LeBron James Arena in Akron, Ohio.

Duquesne (4-2) held tight throughout the contest, as the Dukes were only down 41-38 at halftime. Northeastern (3-3) held a 87-86 advantage inside the final minute, but the Huskies scored the next six points to close out the game on a 3-pointer and free throw by William Kermoury and two more at the charity stripe from Mike Loughnane.

Duquesne shot a similar percentage (54%) from the field to Northeastern’s (55%), but the Huskies dominated at the free throw line. They made 24 of their 30 attempts, including 9 of 10 from Abreu. In Abreu’s previous four games, the first four of his career,
