Despite a 22-point, nine-rebound performance off the bench by junior guard Freddie Dilione V, Penn State faltered in the second half for a 77-65 loss to Providence on Saturday in the Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
Penn State (5-1) was down just 32-31 at halftime, but Providence (4-2) steadily built its advantage over the second half. The Friars dominated down low, winning the points in the paint battle 42-24. The Nittany Lions were also too loose with the ball, turning it over 11 times, leading to 19 fast-break points. Penn State mustered just four points on the fast break.
