Coming out of an LSU-Western Kentucky second-quarter commercial break Saturday night, ESPN began to discuss the Tigers’ head coach vacancy. The broadcast cut to Pete Thamel, the network’s college football senior reporter.

Thamel said as of Saturday night, LSU has positioned itself as the primary outside suitor for Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin to take over in Baton Rouge. Kiffin’s other top option is to stay at Ole Miss, Thamel said.

“LSU’s search target has been Kiffin this entire time,” Thamel said. “They really haven’t spread their wings that much. Whereas Florida, which is also in pursuit of Kiffin, has spoken to multiple other candidates.”
