PHOENIX — Dozens of children across the Valley, from infants to teenagers, officially joined their new families Saturday during Maricopa County’s National Adoption Day event.

The celebration took place at the Durango Juvenile Court Center in Phoenix, where adoptions began at 9 a.m. and continued through noon. Families gathered outside the courthouse with signs, cheers and honking cars as they marked the milestone.

The county hosted a carnival-style event for families, offering face painting, games and activities for children waiting to finalize their adoptions or celebrating the moment with loved ones.

In total, 50 children were adopted, including 3-year-old Alaia who has been with her foster family since she was two weeks old.
