WASHINGTON — Powerball's jackpot rose to $629 million after there were no winners of Wednesday's $593 million jackpot, inching closer to cracking the top 10 of the lottery game's largest jackpots ever.

The grand prize has steadily increased since the who split the second-largest Powerball jackpot in history earlier this year. On Sept. 6, two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas matched all six numbers to claim a staggering $1.8 billion prize, marking one of the largest lottery wins in U.S. history.

Powerball's rising jackpot comes after a long winless run for the competing lottery game Mega Millions when a ticket worth nearly a billion dollars was sold in Newnan, Georgia.
