The era of Barney Ball is over.
On Saturday night, following a 24-13 loss to Northern Colorado, Portland State University announced that the school was parting ways with head football coach Bruce Barnum.
In his final season with the team, Barnum led the Vikings to a 1-11 record, with the team’s lone win coming 40-35 against Cal Poly.
The Vikings were on the losing end of multiple lopsided games this year, including being outscored 111-0 in losses to Tarleton State and BYU in the first two weeks of the 2025 season.
Barnum has been the head coach for the Vikings since 2015. In the span of 11 years, Barnum led Portland State to a 39-75 record.
Before taking over as head coach, Barnum was the offensive coordinator for the Vikings for five seasons. Barnum was named the interim head coach
