GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A man was arrested on battery charges after attacking two family members, including an elderly woman, Saturday night.

The incident occurred at an America’s Best Value Inn in Gainesville, where Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies say John McHugh, 50, became physically aggressive after arguing with the first victim over their living situation.

McHugh pushed the victim onto the bed and hit him multiple times, leaving a small cut and raised bruise on his left cheek.

They say McHugh pushed the second victim onto another bed after she tried to intervene, and she began kicking him to protect herself. He then grabbed her ankle and removed skin from her leg.
