ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Thanksgiving week is officially underway, and many travelers aren’t waiting until the last minute to get moving. From busy airport terminals to steady traffic on the highways, holiday travel is already ramping up across the region.
At Roanoke–Blacksburg Regional Airport, staff say this is just the start of what will likely be one of their busiest stretches of the year.
“We’re entering the holiday season now that we’re approaching Thanksgiving. It seems to start earlier and earlier every year,” said Alexa Briehl, the airport’s PR, marketing and media manager.
The airport expects roughly 7,500 outbound passengers between now and Thanksgiving — a 10% to 20% increase over normal travel volumes.
