Growing up in New Jersey , I lived 45 minutes away from the Gates of Hell. Situated by the Clifton train station and next to a major supermarket, the Gates of Hell is a decrepit, oversized water drain coated in graffiti and bugs . While it was mostly a hangout spot for misfits and skaters, it gained its haunted reputation through the power of urban legend as the alleged site of Satanic rituals , Klan meetings, and if you venture deep enough, a doorway to Hell itself. A spirit known as Red Eyed Mike allegedly guards the place. Knock on the railroad above the entrance, and you will hear a loud horn from inside. Supposedly, that's Red Eyed Mike saying hello ... or warning you to keep away.
