A man died in police custody in Calgary on Sunday, prompting an investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT). The incident occurred during a mental health intervention in the Dover community, specifically at a residence on the 3900 block of 30th Avenue S.E.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) contacted the Calgary Police Service shortly after 4:30 p.m. regarding safety concerns related to a mental health call. According to police, the man, who was in his 40s, exhibited erratic behavior at the time of the incident.

As officers attempted to take the man into custody, he became combative and allegedly assaulted one of the officers. In response, police deployed Tasers in an effort to subdue him. Despite these measures, the man continued to resist and subsequently went into medical distress.

He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed that no officers sustained injuries during the encounter. Following standard protocol, ASIRT has been assigned to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
