Lisburn and Castlereagh mayor Amanda Grehan said people “will stand together in this difficult time” after police confirmed a man and woman died in the two-vehicle collision.

The two, who were believed to be in their 20s, were travelling in the same car along the Lurgan Road.

They were pronounced dead at the scene, with the occupant of the second car taken to hospital for treatment.

Ms Grehan said now was the time for the community to come together and support the families who have been bereaved.

“I am deeply saddened by this tragic loss,” she said.

“My thoughts are with the family and friends affected, and our community stands together in support during this difficult time. It’s a terrible tragedy for this community.”
