A fire broke out on a frozen goods lorry as it was being driven along a busy route through the region.
The incident happened just after 8am on Peto Way, the A12 as it passes through Lowestoft.
The fire was put out firefighters but the road was kept closed while the emergency services dealt with the aftermath and moved the stricken vehicle.
Locals were advised to keep their windows closed.
A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters were mobilised to a heavy goods vehicle fire involving a 44-tonne articulated lorry carrying frozen goods."
Crews from Wrentham and Lowestoft South were sent and used breathing apparatus and hose jets to tackle the blaze.
The HGV driver arranged the recovery of the goods being carried.
