People taking certain weight loss injections could be at risk of a wide variety of side effects, some of which may even affect their pancreas. GLP-1 medicines, such as tirzepatide (Mounjaro) and semaglutide (Wegovy), work by making people feel fuller for longer and therefore less hungry and likely to overeat.
Typically, these medications are taken in the form of an injection once a week for an extended period of time. Guidance from NHS England highlights that tirzepatide should only be taken for weight management when eligible adults are living with obesity and present other weight-related health problems, such as hypertension or cardiovascular disease.
