If you're hosting friends and family for Thanksgiving, especially if you have guests of varied digestive and immune systems, you'll want to take food safety to health inspection levels.

After all, nobody wants to be remembered as the host of that Thanksgiving. The one that, decades later, everyone remembers for all the wrong reasons.

Northern Nevada Public Health monitors restaurants and other food service facilities in Washoe County, keeping an eye out for everything from expired food items to bacterial contamination to proper cooking and refrigeration techniques.

Home chefs should watch out for those same issues as they prepare the most celebrated home-cooked meal on the calendar, said Amber English, environmental health specialist supervisor with Northern Nevada Public Health.
