A man who was hit by a car while riding a mobility scooter has died.

Emergency crews, including critical care paramedics and the air ambulance, were called to the A229 Royal Engineers Road in Maidstone just before 1pm on Friday (November 21).

The police said a silver Volkswagen Passat was travelling along the A229 towards Maidstone when it was involved in a crash with a man riding a blue mobility scooter at a pedestrian crossing near Maidstone Library.

A man in his 80s, who was riding the mobility scooter, was taken to a London hospital but he died from his injuries the day after.

His next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the car, a man in his 40s was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
