SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - The Fruitville Library will close Dec. 18 to undergo a major renovation, Sarasota County announced Monday.
To maintain access to materials and services during construction, a portable library will open within days of the building’s closure in the library’s parking lot, allowing people to continue borrowing items and picking up holds.
When it reopens in summer 2026, the upgraded Library is expected to feature:
A Creation Station with hands-on learning and makerspace activities
A renovated children’s area and a dedicated teen room
New collaboration and study rooms
Expanded community meeting rooms
An outdoor courtyard for events and relaxation
Access to the new History Center, celebrating local stories and archives
“Our community has a lot to look forward to,”
