Jimmy Cliff, who is best known for his role in popularizing reggae music internationally through his hit songs “The Harder They Come” and “I Can See Clearly Now,” has died.
He was 81.
The cause was a seizure followed by pneumonia, his wife Latifa Chambers said in an Instagram post on Monday.
“I am thankful for his family, friends, fellow artists and coworkers who have shared his journey with him,” Chambers said. “To all his fans around the world, please know that your support was his strength throughout his whole career. He really appreciated each and every fan for their love.”
Cliff’s career spanned seven decades, The Washington Post reported. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.
