Worcester City Councilor-at-Large Morris Bergman will retain his seat on the council, according to the results of a two-day-long recount.

City officials gathered in the North High School gymnasium Nov. 22 and Nov. 23 to conduct a hand recount of the ballots cast Nov. 4 in the city councilor-at-large race.

The recount was requested by candidate Jermoh Kamara, who placed seventh in the race, trailing Bergman by 23 votes, according to unofficial tallies released the night of the general election , Nov. 4.

The city’s charter states that the six councilor-at-large candidates who receive the most votes will be elected to serve on the council.

Citing the narrow difference, Kamara announced her intention to seek a recount on Nov. 6 .
