Gros Cap residents with concerns about speeding and unsafe passing on Highway 550 now have the ear of the Ministry of Transportation.
The ministry has conducted a technical review of speeds on the section between Heywood Drive and Douglas Drive and determined that drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, would all be safer with a reduced speed limit.
Currently, the posted speed limit on Highway 550 east of Gros Cap is 80 km/h. The limit within the hamlet (west of the intersection with Douglas Drive) is 50 km/h.
But late last month, the township received a letter from Jaclyn Little, a Regional Relations Specialist with the ministry, outlining the ministry’s intent to set a transitional speed limit of 70 km/h on the highway near Gros Cap.
The transitional zone will begin west of Heywood Drive
