Throughout the trial of Michael Haaima, who stands accused of 98 charges including sexual assault, child pornography and trafficking, Kingston’s Superior Court of Justice has heard that he used social media and dating apps to meet several of the women and girls he allegedly assaulted.
On Nov. 3, a witness testified that she had met Haaima on Tinder in 2017 and set up a date with him, only to find herself being sexually assaulted and afraid for her life. During that testimony, assistant Crown attorney Holly Chiavetti referred the witness to images of the Tinder profile allegedly used by Haaima; the witness identified these images as pictures and a profile of “Mike,” the man who assaulted her.
