Paramedics were dispatched to St Hild's Church of England School in Hartlepool on Monday afternoon after a year eight pupil sustained injuries during an accident on the all-weather pitch. The boy required emergency treatment and was transported by ambulance to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. He is currently reported to be in a stable condition.
Paul Martin, the headteacher, confirmed the incident, stating, "It was a pupil that was injured during lunchtime, out on the all-weather pitch, in an accident. We immediately called the emergency services and informed parents." He added that the emergency services opted to send an air ambulance, although the pupil was taken to the hospital by standard ambulance.
Martin noted, "The only update I have had is that the pupil is receiving treatment and is stable. All other pupils were calm and safe in the building while it was dealt with. It was dealt with safely and calmly by all staff involved. We are keeping in contact with the family for updates."
A Facebook post from the school acknowledged the situation, stating, "We have been dealing with an accident at St Hild's Church of England School. Emergency services have been contacted and have responded promptly. An air ambulance will land on our all-weather pitch imminently. We thank our staff and emergency service for their prompt response."
Later in the day, a school spokesperson provided further information, saying, "At lunchtime today a pupil was involved in an accident. Emergency services responded quickly and the student is currently in hospital receiving treatment. We are sure you will join us in wishing them a very speedy recovery. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has got in touch to share their best wishes and say a huge thank you to the emergency services and St Hild's staff who dealt so swiftly and calmly with the situation. We will continue to update you as and when appropriate."
Both the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) attended the scene. Teesside Live has reached out to both services for additional comments regarding the incident.
