This is purely hypothetical, but let's say you are an unpopular, economy destroying, rapist, swindler, president, who has had a barely concealed close relationship with a know pedophile. If some desperate autocrat, in a crumbling country, had, say video evidence of your misbehavior with underage girls, would you be willing to bend to that autocrats will, and sell out a brave, smaller country, that was resisting that autocrats subjugation, just to keep those videos from being released, given that even your most fervent supporters couldn't stomach you raping young girls, and your minions had done a sloppy job of covering up your past misdeeds. And would this whole disgusting mess make decent people want to throw up their Thanksgiving dinner.
