LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A group of fifth graders at Bowen Elementary School decided to create an outreach program to help fellow classmates.
The students at Bowen are known as the Bowen Bees, so they call the project the “Bright Bees Project.”
Organizers say it kicked off last year and has only grown. It all starts with first responders handing out a new stuffed animal, called “furry stuffies” at emergency scenes to comfort them, and provide reassurance. Each of the toys comes with personalized messages and a barcode that lets the students access videos that provide support after the crisis ends.
