QUÉBEC - Matthew Forbes, one of four individuals charged in an alleged anti-government plot, appeared in court today. He is accused of attempting to forcibly take control of land in the Quebec City area. Forbes will return to court on February 2, 2026.

Prosecutor Gabriel Lapierre informed the court that the Crown has presented approximately 90 percent of the evidence against Forbes to his defense team. The prosecution is prepared to set a trial date.

Forbes is currently free on bail and faces weapons-related charges. In contrast, his three co-accused—Marc-Aurèle Chabot, Raphaël Lagacé, and Simon Angers-Audet—have been denied bail. They are facing terrorism-related charges linked to an alleged plan to establish an anti-government community north of Quebec City.

Chabot, Lagacé, and Angers-Audet are scheduled to appear together in a Quebec City courtroom on December 1. Additionally, Lagacé and Angers-Audet have separate hearings this week.

Both Chabot and Forbes were active members of the military at Canadian Forces Base Valcartier, located near Quebec City, at the time of their arrest on July 8, 2025. The case continues to unfold as legal proceedings progress.
