TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Thanksgiving is the leading day for home cooking fires, according to the National Fire Protection Association. That’s why Tucson Fire Department officials are reminding residents about kitchen safety ahead of the holiday.
“We have so many people and families gathered together and the number of things that are being cooked on that particular day between the oven, the stove, the crock pots, the deep fryers, you name it, it’s being used,” said Assistant Fire Chief Barrett Baker.
Baker also warned against using ovens for storage and advised checking them before cooking. If an oven fire occurs, he said to keep the door closed to contain it and call 911 to ensure it’s put out safely.
