GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- A Michigan veterinarian who refused to return a homeless man’s dog after she found it tied to a truck in Grand Rapids has been sentenced to 10 days in jail.
Amanda Hergenreder, 40, of Millington, was sentenced Monday, Nov. 24, on a charge of larceny less than $200. She must report to the Kent County Jail on Friday, Nov. 28 to start the incarceration.
Hergenreder was in Grand Rapids in November 2024 for a conference when she found a pit bull tied to a U-Haul truck near Eastern Avenue and 28th Street next to a Biggby Coffee shop.
She believed the dog was alone, underweight and neglected, and called Grand Rapids Police for guidance, but an intern answered and no guidance was given.
Hergenreder took the dog home with her, but refused to return it when police tracked her
