PHOENIX — A state senator is calling for a complete overhaul of Arizona's system for tracking sex offenders after a man gained access to a Phoenix elementary school and allegedly assaulted a 10-year-old girl.
State Sen. Janae Shamp, R-District 29, said Monday she will no longer accept "passive supervision" or a "culture of leniency" in regards to sexual deviants after an incident reported at Orangewood Elementary School resulted in the arrest of a convicted sex offender.
Abel Gblah, 25, is accused of entering the school on Nov. 19 and assaulting a child in an empty classroom before he was later apprehended by Phoenix police. Records show Gblah has been on lifetime probation since 2022 and is registered as a Level 2 sex offender. His record shows a pattern of probation violations.
