DEFERIET, New York (WWNY) - They weren’t on the ballot, but now they find themselves in office.

When folks in the village of Deferiet went to the polls on Election Day, they found four spots blank as no one in the village ran for mayor or 3 open board of trustee positions, at least not officially.

Instead, three of those four positions have been filled by residents who were written in.

Current Village Trustee Nancy Dutton will take on the mayoral position, a title she held before.

Mark Roberts and Tyler Cummings, new to politics, will fill 2 of the 3 trustee positions.

That leaves one more trustee position to be filled. Anna Peck and Troy Filiatrault are both tied at four votes each.
